Great styling is about taking cues from industry trends and personalizing that for a client. I recently styled an engagement session for a sweet couple, Ginny and David, who are getting married in Nantucket next Spring. Although we were shooting in Calgary, they wanted their photos to set the tone for their upcoming nuptials. The goal was to acheive an authentic, Nantucket inspired look, while avoiding the predictable nautical approach.
Instead of taking the obvious route- navy stripes and anchors, I dreamnt up a romantic, preppy and natural vision for the shoot. I researched the trees, the flowers, the architecture, the fashion and the colors of Nantucket. Using water, rocks, and driftwood to communicate the environment, I also added details like blue glass, hydrangeas and a vintage compass to round out the story.
From location scouting, wardrobe consultation and accessorizing, sourcing objects, and onsite creative direction, this shoot was styled from start to finish. What a lovely evening with a great couple and the talented Genevieve Renee.
